As a father, Joseph treasures every moment spent with his daughter - well, almost every moment! Like all parents, he is all too aware of how fast time flies as Arden grows up, and how important it is to have photographs that truly relay her being to enjoy years from now, when things are a little less hectic. A former newspaper photographer, his background is well suited to making beautiful and expressive images of your child, and to capturing those fleeting moments that don't seem to come often enough!
Joseph prefers to work with a film camera, and to work in black and white. He believes that black and white images best convey the emotions and personality of his subjects, and that film is the most archival medium in which to capture that. After all, these are photographs that you will want to treasure forever! The 35mm and medium format film cameras that he uses also have a larger frame than most digital cameras, which gives a more natural and pleasing perspective to his images. Digital photography is available for those occasions when clients need images that are available immediately.
Joseph began his photographic career in 1991. As a staff photographer for several Boston area newspapers, he won state and regional awards for his work, and was invited to attend the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop, the only merit-based photojournalism seminar in the world. In 2001, Joseph moved to Atlanta with his wife while she attended law school. One of the few photographers in the Southeast still practicing the art of photographic print making, Joseph personally handcrafts each Gallery print in his state-of-the-art darkroom. All film is digitized so that clients can view proofs on the web, and share images via email.
Having left the newspaper world, but still driven to document the lives around him, he chose to photograph children. After all, who could resist the shy smile of a child?
You had a great way with Liz and you were extremely patient. I think you were able to capture her at her best." - Kate, mother of Elizabeth
